Chelidona & Tymfristos – Wanderlust Peaks Project Weekend
On the weekend of 21–22 November 2026, we travel to Evrytania for a special two-day Wanderlust Peaks Project experience, featuring two mountain ascents to the summits of Tymfristos and Chelidona, along with an overnight stay in the heart of Karpenisi.
Two days, two summits, one complete mountain experience!
The next chapter of the Wanderlust Peaks Project takes us to two of Evrytania’s most distinctive mountains. On Saturday, we begin with the shorter ascent from the Velouchi Mountain Refuge to the summit of Mount Tymfristos, while on Sunday we take on the longer and more demanding route from Palio Mikro Chorio to the summit of Mount Chelidona.
Between the two ascents, we will have time to rest, explore Karpenisi and enjoy the autumn atmosphere of Evrytania.

🔶 Two summits in one exceptional mountain weekend
The weekend has been designed so that the first day gradually introduces us to the mountain environment, while the second presents the main challenge of the experience.
Mount Tymfristos, also known as Velouchi, rises prominently above Karpenisi and offers extensive views across the mountains of Central Greece. Mount Chelidona, with its dramatic terrain and impressive ridgelines, is one of the most distinctive mountain ranges in Evrytania.
An experience combining two different mountain ascents, an overnight stay in Karpenisi and the strong sense of teamwork that defines every Wanderlust Peaks Project activity.

🔶 Saturday, 21 November – Ascent of Mount Tymfristos
We depart from Athens in the morning and travel to the Velouchi Mountain Refuge, where the first ascent of the weekend will begin.
The route leads us to the summit of Mount Tymfristos at an elevation of 2,315 metres. This is the shorter of the two ascents, covering approximately 5.5 kilometres with around 450 metres of elevation gain.

As we gain elevation, the terrain opens up and the views extend towards Karpenisi and the surrounding mountain peaks. Reaching the first summit of the weekend provides the ideal introduction to the greater challenge awaiting us the following day.

🔶 Overnight stay in Karpenisi
After completing the ascent, we will travel to Hotel Elvetia, located in the historic centre of Karpenisi.
There will be plenty of free time to rest, enjoy an afternoon walk around town, have a coffee or choose a local restaurant for dinner. The hotel’s central location makes it easy to explore Karpenisi without requiring any additional transport.
Our stay includes a rich organic breakfast buffet, fast wireless internet access and complimentary use of the sauna and hot tub, subject to availability and the capacity of the facilities.
🔶 Sunday, 22 November – Ascent of Mount Chelidona
After breakfast, we will travel to Palio Mikro Chorio, where the main route of the weekend towards the summit of Mount Chelidona will begin.
The ascent covers approximately 12 kilometres with around 1,100 metres of elevation gain. The route requires good physical fitness, a steady pace and previous experience in mountain hiking.
Moving through the slopes and ridgelines of Mount Chelidona, the group will experience an authentic mountain environment, with the landscape gradually opening up as we approach the summit.

After completing the ascent, an organised meal will follow at a local taverna. Later, we will begin our return journey to Athens.
🔶 Who is this experience for?
This two-day experience is suitable for hikers with previous experience on Grade B mountain routes and a good level of physical fitness.
The ascent of Mount Chelidona is the more demanding day of the programme due to its total distance and considerable elevation gain. Participants should be prepared for several hours of hiking through mountain terrain and for the weather conditions expected at this time of year.
The maximum number of participants is limited to 35, preserving the small-group character of the Wanderlust Peaks Project and allowing for better coordination, flexibility and group management in the mountains.
