Hiking to Neraiospilia Cave on Mount Parnassos
On Sunday, 13 September 2026, we hike through Mount Parnassos, starting from the traditional village of Vargiani and heading towards the impressive Neraidospilia cave. A unique mountain route through a dense fir forest, offering beautiful views, changing landscapes and the opportunity to explore one of the area’s most remarkable caves.

🔶 What you will experience
You will discover the authentic mountain landscape of Parnassos by following a beautiful route along forest roads and mountain trails. The route passes through a dense fir forest, offers wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and leads to Neraidospilia cave, at an altitude of approximately 1,400 metres.
Under the guidance of our mountain guides and with the required equipment, we will have the opportunity to enter the cave and discover its unique interior, natural water pools and impressive geological formations.

🔶 Participation requirements
- Participants must be in good physical condition
- Participants must have basic hiking experience in a mountain environment
- Participants must be comfortable walking on uphill and downhill trails
- Participants must be able to hike for approximately 6 hours, including the necessary breaks
- Participants must not have any recent injuries
- Participants must have the required equipment listed below
- Participants must accept the use of mandatory protective equipment where required by the nature of the activity
- Participants must follow the mountain guides’ instructions throughout the activity

- Hiking boots with non-slip soles and ankle support
- Trekking poles
- Mountaineering/climbing helmet
- Headlamp with a sufficiently charged battery
- Waterproof and windproof jacket
- Hiking backpack
- At least 1.5 litres of water
- Personal snacks for the duration of the hike
🔶 Useful equipment information
Due to the nature of the route, having the correct equipment is particularly important for the comfort and safety of the activity.
- The use of a helmet is mandatory for this activity and forms part of the required equipment for the route.
- A mountaineering or climbing helmet suitable for use in a natural environment is recommended. Cycling, skiing and other types of helmets are not recommended.
- Participants who do not have their own helmet may rent a safety helmet from Wanderlust Outdoor Activities & Travel for an additional cost of €5 for the duration of the activity. Payment must be made in cash, in person, following advance notification during registration.
- During registration, please state in the comments field whether you have your own helmet or wish to rent a safety helmet from Wanderlust Outdoor Activities & Travel. This information is mandatory and allows us to ensure the necessary equipment availability.
- Trekking poles are essential for stability, balance and reducing the load placed on the joints during the ascent and descent.
🔶 Important route information
- The approach to the cave includes a downhill trail and some rocky sections where careful movement is required.
- Fixed ropes are available at specific points to assist with the approach and must be used according to the mountain guides’ instructions.
- The ground inside the cave may be wet and slippery.
- A mountaineering/climbing helmet and headlamp are mandatory for entering the cave.
- Entry into the cave will take place in an organised manner, under the guidance and instructions of the mountain guides.
- The visit inside the cave may be modified if the weather conditions or the condition of the terrain do not allow it to take place safely.

🔶 After the hike
After completing the hike, we will stop at a traditional local taverna for a meal and some well-earned rest, bringing our day on Mount Parnassos to a pleasant close.
