Hiking in Vlachokerasia - Skiritida Forest

 On Sunday 13/10 we will hike in Vlachokerasia, in the famous forest of Skiritida which is a magical landscape that has come out of an illustrated fairy tale!

 Skiritida Forest is located in southern Arcadia. It has Mainalos to the north, Parnonas to the east and the passage between Parnonas and Taygetos. Vlachokerasia is one of the surrounding villages and from where our journey started.

 The route is circular, 80% in the shade, with a course in the forest and parallel to the river. It is a verdant forest of pines, chestnuts, sycamores, willows, oaks and willows. The intense presence of water in lakes, streams, but also in the grooves of watermills and watermills, images that captivate the eye. The waters of the springs enliven the landscape in the ravines and come to meet the river. Landscapes that have been trodden by man for over 50 years but also areas that have never been a passage for man.

It is considered the first artificial forest in Greece, the work of the forester and writer Tasos Stefanos, where in 1976 he convinced the residents of Vlachokerasia and the surrounding villages to plant pines, firs, oaks and chestnuts, creating a completely natural environment. Creator and pioneer of the path we will walk is Tasos Mitsios.

The 4 km of the route pass through the dense forest, the 6 km follow the river and tributaries and the remaining 4 km pass through the ridge of a hill which forms the balcony of the area.

Lunch will follow in a local tavern. Those who wish to have a Vegan option should mention it as a comment during registration.
