Hiking in Tsivlou Lake

On Sunday 15/9 we will hike to the mountain lake of Tsivlou starting from the village of Peristera at 1060m. altitude. A green landscape that at the end the dips in its cold waters will cool us down!

From the slopes of Aorani, or better known Helmos, we will descend among the pines, firs, plane trees and chestnuts! The view to the green landscapes as well as to the lake is of incomparable beauty. The contrast of blue and green will reward us. The sound of the waters of the river Krathis will accompany us during our hike since we will be moving along its banks!

Arriving at the lake we will hike around the perimeter and enjoy our swim! Anyone who wishes will have the opportunity to Kayak in the lake lasting 30' (extra fee 15€/person, state it during your registration).

Lake Tsivlou was created in 1913 by a landslide between the villages of Sylivaina and Tsivlos. The lake is 80 meters deep, 8.3 hectares in surface and fed by underground springs and forest streams. It is considered the youngest natural lake in Europe. The name of the lake comes from the village of Tsivlos which was partially submerged after the landslide. Local tradition also calls it Mavrolimni for the evil it caused.

Today, Lake Tsivlou is an important wetland that hosts many species of flora and fauna. It is also a popular leisure and walking destination.

Lunch will follow in a local tavern. Those who wish to have a Vegan option should mention it as a comment during registration.
