Circular Hike in Parnitha – Mikri & Megali Chouni
On Sunday 10 May we invite you to experience an authentic spring hiking adventure in Mount Parnitha, following a scenic circular trail through Mikri Houni and Megali Houni gorges, surrounded by shaded forest paths, seasonal streams and lush green vegetation, with a stop at the picturesque Agia Triada chapel.
🔶 Route Highlights
- Circular hiking route through one of the most impressive spring landscapes of Mount Parnitha
- Shaded forest trails with rich vegetation and seasonal running water
- Walking alongside and inside the Agia Triada stream bed
- Stop at the charming Agia Triada chapel
- Varied scenery between Mikri Houni and Megali Houni gorges
🔶 Activity Description

The route unfolds through a dramatic natural landscape where the trail alternates between walking alongside the stream and directly inside its bed, offering continuous scenery changes and a strong sense of immersion in nature, despite being close to Athens. During this season the mountain is at its spring peak, with vibrant vegetation and fresh flowing water enhancing the hiking experience.
We begin by ascending Mikri Houni (Agia Triada stream), following shaded forest paths either next to the water or inside the stream bed itself, enjoying the cool atmosphere and rich natural surroundings. Midway through the hike we stop at the small chapel of Agia Triada before continuing our descent through the equally impressive Megali Houni gorge.

🔶 About the Route
Mikri Houni and Megali Houni are among the most characteristic gorges of Mount Parnitha National Park, featuring striking terrain, flowing water and dense vegetation. In spring, the landscape becomes especially vibrant, creating a hiking experience that feels closer to alpine exploration than a typical forest walk near Athens.
The circular route provides rhythm and variety, allowing participants to experience two distinct sides of the same mountain environment within a single day.
