Ancient Delphi to Kirra Trail | Guided Hiking Experience on the E4
On Sunday, March 1st, 2026 we invite you to a unique hiking experience along the ancient path that once connected the port of Kirra with the sacred site of Delphi, following the route of ancient pilgrims, today part of the European E4 trail.
🔶 Trail Highlights
- Hike the historic pilgrims’ path of Delphi
- Panoramic views over the Amfissa olive grove
- Views towards the imposing peak of Mount Giona
- Passage by the Mornos water canal
- Stop at the chapel of Agios Charalambos
- Walk through the amphitheatrically built village of Chrisso
- Finish at the ancient port of Kirra

🔶 The Route
The hike starts from Delphi, at an altitude of about 550 meters, near the archaeological site. We follow the ancient route in reverse, descending in a south west direction.
The first kilometers are gently downhill with breathtaking views over the endless olive groves of Amfissa, while on our right the peak of Mount Giona stands out, shaping the landscape with its distinctive pyramid-like form.
We then reach the Mornos water canal, where we can observe the water’s flow starting from the artificial Lake Mornos and reaching Attica, covering a total distance of 188 km.
Shortly after, we approach the chapel of Agios Charalambos, a spot offering generous views over the famous ancient olive grove of Amfissa and the coastal area of Itea.
Leaving the chapel behind, we arrive at the village of Chrisso, built amphitheatrically on the foothills of Mount Parnassus, at an altitude of about 200 meters. The name “Chrisso” is linked to ancient Krisa, the Phocian city that existed here as far back as the Mycenaean era.
We continue downhill towards the Byzantine church of Agios Georgios and a beautiful almond grove. After about 1 km, the downhill gradient eases and we take a refreshing break at the stone-built spring.

The final kilometers follow a road through centuries-old olive trees and lead us to the port of Kirra, one of the two most important religious tourism ports of antiquity.
